Durga Pujo Festive Look

durga puja- festive look

Hello everyone! I am in India, Kolkata to be specific, and the city is already basking in the festive aura! If ever there was a right time to be in this city, this is it. I feel so delighted to be here after ages during Durga Pujo. For my international readers who don’t know much about Durga Pujo, this festival is celebrated to worship the hindu goddess Durga, the goddess of Shakti (Power). The main festival goes on for 5 days and is considered one of the most important events in our religious calendar. It symbolises victory of good over evil. There is a beautiful mythological story behind the celebration, I would urge you to take out some time to read more about it later.

Durga Pujo Festive Look Inspiration:  Being an Indian, I love wearing sarees. It’s in my culture and my tradition. I feel this attire brings out that extra feminine elegance in a woman. The saree I am wearing here is a very special one as it’s a pujo gift from my Ma (Mother). The moment I laid my eyes on it, I could imagine myself doing a festive post wearing it. The fabric is a cotton handloom Ghicha. I feel this stunning white and yellow combination is just perfect for my Durgo Pujo festive look. To complete the look I have paired it with an emerald green silk blouse (top).

My Makeup Look:  Durga Pujo makeup for me is all about that old fashioned dramatic look which reflects your confidence and brings a sense of empowerment! I always believe that a person’s eyes reflect one’s expressions, thus my eye makeup here is very dramatic and on point keeping the rest of my makeup simple and subtle.

Accessories I am Wearing:  As I have mentioned in my previous post, accessories are not only worn to look beautiful! They elevate your outfit look and add a dimension to one’s personality! It adds a special effect to your styling and talking about styling, I have paired these statement pieces, the jhumkas and the nathni which are extremely traditional and go with the saree to give it a dramatic look!

Location:  As this post is all about Durga Pujo I could not think about any place other than Kumartuli, the hub in Kolkata where the idols of goddess Durga are made. It is truly an enriching experience to see how the idols are made, decorated and adorned! I thoroughly enjoyed the shoot and the location. During the shoot I was literally getting goosebumps. It was the feeling of being back in the city at this time of the year, me decked up in traditional wear and my parents by my side getting a first hand experience of my photoshoot.

Pujo Morning- Pujo mornings are always a bit relaxing, where we try to spend time catching up with friends and family (fondly known amongst Bengalis as Adda sessions), so I would suggest choosing some bold and vibrant colours to welcome the festive spirit. Go for ethnic skirts or anarkalis keeping the makeup simple and select some nude tones for eyes with a smokey effect and a pink lip shade to go with. For the hair make a neat bun or a pony tail. To complete the look wear some hoops or jhumkas. If you love to wear sarees, then drape a  saree in solid colours or florals. If you prefer to wear it the more traditional way do not hesitate to wear a gorgeous dhakai saree with gold jewelleries.

Pujo Evening- The second part of the day is all about dazzling looks! I would suggest creating a fusion look to stand out from the crowd. Opt for some autumnal tones for jumpsuit or a solid coloured palazzo with a ethnic jacket and to complete the look wear your favourite pair of juttis and jhumkis. For the makeup add oodles of kohl and select a red lipstick or a nude one to get more dramatic! Statement pieces are so much in trend so wear a gold or silver neckpiece. Coming to sarees, select some bold colours like black or maroon georgette saree with gold shimmers on eyes and red lips or a heavy work zardosi with neutral makeup. you can even go for some gorgeous handloom sarees which are my current favourites with dramatic eyes and silver or gold statement pieces to go with and be the trendsetter for the festival.

I hope these little tips really help you during the Pujo!

Have a wonderful time everyone with friends and family, enjoy
